University of Tulsa Athletic Training students from the Organization and Administration of Athletic Training course presented their final project on December 7, 2012. The project involved a detailed review of youth sports safety legislation pertaining to heat related illness nationally, and included the development of legislative language for an Oklahoma Bill.

Attendees of the presentation included: Representative Dan Kirby; Oklahoma Athletic Trainers' Association President Michael Catterson, MS, LAT, ATC; Eastern Oklahoma Orthopedic Center Director of Rehabilitation Omar Zaldivar, LAT, ATC; Cascia Hall Athletic Trainer Stephanie Seney, LAT, ATC (not pictured), and the course instructor Ron Walker, MA, LAT, ATC.

The students involved in project development and presentation were: Courtney Farnsworth, McKenna Lucas, Jordan Gonzales, Meredith Papps, and Rebekah Whitehead.

The presentation drew significant interest from both Rep Kirby and Mr Catterson who felt that the introduction of heat illness legislation would be positive for student athlete safety. Rep Kirby anticipates introducing this legislation for consideration during the next legislative session and asked that the students be willing to provide assistance to him throughout the legislative process.
